Acupuncture During Pregnancy

Wondering if acupuncture is safe while pregnant, and what kind of benefits you can expect? Read on for insight from Wild Heart's acupuncturist and herbalist Britanie Kessler, LAc.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Yes!! Not only is it safe, it can help! There are contraindicated acupuncture points that a trained acupuncturist will avoid. Those points, however, can be used later to help induce labor.

Acupuncture Through the Trimesters

In each trimester, as women experience different symptoms there are many different options for natural remedies. An example for each trimester:

First trimester Some women experience acne which can be soothed with a combination of essential oils and a carrier oil such as Argan oil with tea tree, lavender and clary sage essential oils.

Second trimester Nasal congestion is a common issue in the second trimester. Pregnant women can try a neti pot to flush out the sinuses.

Third trimester Many pregnant women experience low back pain as they near the end of their pregnancy. Acupuncture and heating pads can help to alleviate the extra strain being put on the low back.

Throughout all of these trimesters, acupuncture can help to alleviate symptoms and provide a relaxing atmosphere for both Mom and baby.
