Chris Cleaver (he/him)

Chris is devoted to the art and science of helping clients and couples thrive through psychotherapy. It is all too common for us to live by labels and stories that are shaming, constricting, and limiting. He welcomes all clients to explore their life narratives and to write a story all their own; one that is empowering and liberating. While he uses this as a core theme in his therapy, he is also trained in and able to utilize other paradigms flexibly in a way that works for his clients.  He is committed to finding what works for his clients and for the unique working relationship he establishes with each client or couple. He seeks their input about what they feel will work best. Through utilizing feedback and drawing from different strategies in counseling, he seeks to help clients develop more meaning, navigate relationship challenges, overcome depression, relieve anxiety, and to overcome abuse, trauma, and oppression.  He has engaged in significant personal exploration into many of the world's religious systems and spiritual paths. He specializes in helping clients explore their own spirituality, whatever that may look like, and to transcend limiting and fear-based religious orientations, while honoring and including those aspects of their spirituality lead to greater freedom, connection, and love.

Chris is recognized as a Licensed Professional Counselor (C6737) in Oregon.  He holds a Master's Degree and a PhD in Counseling.  He has over 12 years of experience working with clients utilizing individual, couples, and group modalities. In addition to engaging in therapy and training counselors, he has also completed research regarding how white mental health counselors develop nonracist identities. Chris recognizes science as an important means of understanding and improving psychotherapeutic practice.  He has also delved into the spiritual and mystical aspects of the human experience, and enjoys walking with clients of all kinds through the journey of becoming truly authentic and joyful.  He recognizes and draws from all useful sources of knowledge and understanding for assisting his clients to achieve better connection with themselves, others, and spirituality. He believes deeply in the healing power of empathy, attunement, and resonance through relationships.  Please reach out to Chris to ask questions, to explore whether working with him can be helpful or just to say hi!
